Emmanual Pahud recommends using circular breathing for this excerpt, which is EXCELLENT advice if you already have that skill in your arsenal. For us mere mortals, our best bet is to try not to let the (necessary) breaths interrupt the musical line.
For orchestral excerpts, I often like to find the instrument in the orchestra for which each excerpt wouldn’t be SUCH a big deal/for which the figure is better suited physically [ex: our “Classical Symphony” excerpt would be SO MUCH EASIER to play on the violin, right?)
I actually think this excerpt IS best suited for the flute, which makes me feel even worse for being (sounding?) so winded…
